Thought I'd spike the punch with a few links of interest.

Inhabitat. This one is an interesting mish-mash of green-tech, high-tech, and bullshit-tech. Sift through the obvious designer wankerisms to find the good stuff. It's got a forest of links to other interesting design sites.


Wikipedia. Okay, so you probably know this one, I just feel like spreading the word. I know, yes, it's open source, and there's no chain of accountability, but, still, for pure suck-it-and-see value, it's pretty good. Sometimes I find their articles to be some of the most lucid on the web.

Speaking of which, ever find mining the web for information to be difficult? Well, who hasn't? Though, here's a good example. I'm trying to find out more about Taylor instabilities and Couette flow, after finding a passing reference in an article on Jupiter's atmosphere. Well, shit, punch those into google and you're off into the proceedings of the annuals of the society of the institute of the college for research into topics which have long titles. Seriously, it's hard to find info you can absorb as a layperson. I mean, hell, I'm an engineer, I've done vector calc, I still don't want to wade through 10 pages of friggin Navier-Stokes equations to get a grip on what this stuff -is-.

That said, can we really expect the web to cater to everything we want to know? Nothing is ever going to replace learning it for yourself, but, sometimes something like Wikipedia is a handy 'pocket reference' sort of thing. I know it's not -that- accurate but sometimes it's the only, or one the few, accesable warrens of information.

Anyway, anything else of interest, lemme think. You're the Man Now Dog! Hard to explain what the hell this is, people pick a website name and upload a background (frequently an animated .gif), some music, add some text and make a sort of sarcastic gestalt. So you get things like: The Picard Song which is nonsensical but funny, which begat The Hypno Picard, which begat WTF?. See? There's dozens of fads (don't call them memes, or I'll hit you. Meme theorists annoy me. Hell, meme theory is a meme! Now stick that in your pipe and go back to wanking to glossy, signed 8x11's of Marshal McLuahan.).
